How To Back-Up and Save Your Facebook Contacts

Have you ever wondered if there is a way to back-up your Facebook contacts (friends) from your profile? It is possible and is surely something everyone should know how to do, but unfortunately many do not. Much to the user’s dismay, we have seen situations where upstanding accounts were disabled by Facebook unintentionally or for no good reason, so it is best to be prepared with a back-up, just in case.

To get started, you’ll need to create a yahoo mail account at login.yahoo.com, if you don’t already have one. If you already have a Yahoo account, you can go directly to http://address.yahoo.com/- Step 5 below.

Importing Facebook Contacts to Yahoo:

Create Yahoo Account
Login to Yahoo Mail
Go to “Contacts”
Got to “Tools” and Select “Import”
Select Facebook / Choose “yes” to share contacts w/Yahoo
Let Import Process Run

Downloading Contacts to hard-drive:

Go to “Contacts”
Click on “Tools” and Select “Export”
Choose “Yahoo! CSV” – “Export Now”
Save the file to your desktop (default file name will be “yahoo_ab.csv”)

Importing Contacts to Facebook:

Go to your Facebook Home (where the live feed is)
Go to “Get Connected” – located on right side of page, and down a little bit
Under “Who’s on Facebook” – Select “Find your friends”
Under “Find people you know”, you’ll see a link that says “Upload Contact File”
Browse to your Yahoo .csv file on your desktop and hit “Find Friends”

That should do it! Now you will have them backed up on Yahoo, as well as on your desktop. If you should accumulate a large number of friends in the future, you can always re-use this method to maintain an ongoing back-up file.

Note: This method is only for personal profiles. Unfortunately, it cannot be utilized to back up fans on Fan Pages, though we would love to see this become available soon… hint – hint.
